The Green Scholars program is a community outreach initiative that encourages Caldwell’s best and brightest students to come out and learn more about sustainable technology and other creative ways to help preserve our planet.

All high school students are invited to participate. Students from all of the high schools as well as homeschool students have joined the “club”.

Green Scholars meet once a month to learn about such topics as: wind energy, solar energy, rainwater collection building efficiency, biofuels, and recycling.

Green Scholars have taken field trips to Appalachian State University (ASU) to see the solar arrays they have in place on campus, ASU also has the largest wind turbine in NC and the students were given a tour of that site and given information regarding the energy it produces. The students toured Stat recycling to learn about commercial recycling, they have visited the community gardens and the local farmers market to learn about sustainable agriculture and much more.
